Westbury UMC is excited to announce a partnership with Anderson Elementary School, located at 5727 Ludington Drive. With a hard-working, dedicated staff, led by a dynamic principal, Dr. Roslyn S. Vaughn, Anderson Elementary is a wonderful place, faced with the challenges of many of our schools.

If you are interested in volunteering as a tutor, cafeteria monitor, office aide or any number of other positions, contact Rev. Romonica Malone-Wardley.

Braes Interfaith Ministries

Braes Interfaith Ministries (BIM) is a coalition of 12 congregations in Southwest Houston, including Westbury UMC. BIM began 25 years ago when five congregations (Salem Evangelical Lutheran, St. George Episcopal, St. John’s Presbyterian, Westbury United Methodist and Willow Meadows Baptist) met to discuss the needs of the poor in the community. Based on this meeting, the group organized a non-profit corporation in 1986 that is chartered by the State of Texas.

Today, Braes Interfaith Ministries is serving more than 16,000 individuals a year and has more than 100 volunteers. The core services offered include food, clothing and financial assistance. There is also a strong school supply program and holiday food program. Along with canned food, clients can receive fresh meat and vegetables, from the Community Donations Garden.

Studies show that hungry children more often engage in aggressive behavior, they are more often in special education classes and have more chronic health conditions. To address these issues, Braes started the “Buddy Back Pack” program at the pantry, providing bags with non-perishable snacks for the children to take home on Fridays and eat over the weekend. Westbury UMC has church members volunteering to pick up the bags of food and deliver them to three schools within our community every other Friday.

BIM is located at 4300 W. Bellfort, Houston, TX 77035. The mission of BIM is to provide physical, spiritual and emotional assistance to persons in need within these selected zip codes: 77025, 77035, 77045, 77051, 77053, 77054, 77071, 77085 and 77096.

Braes Resale & Consignment Shop is located at 10319 S. Post Oak Rd., Houston, TX 77035 (in the strip center on the southeast corner of W. Bellfort and S. Post Oak). The shop, which is open Monday–Saturday, 10:00 am–5:00 pm, is a fundraising activity of Braes Interfaith Ministries.

As a part of Westbury UMC's vision, we have committed to show the community who we are and how we have "more than enough love to go around" through service and compassion.

At our inaugural “More Than Enough Love Community Service Day” on March 26, 2011, a total of 84 volunteers took part in these service activities:

- Hosted Health and Safety Fair at Westbury UMC, with close to 30 organizations represented
- Landscaping work and flower planting at Chimney Rock Park
- Clean-up of Anderson Elementary's classrooms and hallways
- Painting of stripes down the hallways of Westbury High School
- Clean-up and organizing at Braes Interfaith Ministries

Our Fall 2011 "More Than Enough Love" day was held on Saturday, October 22, with worksites throughout Westbury; and we expanded to six worksites on Saturday, March 24, 2012.
